Revisiting The Jellyfish Nebula IC 443

The Jellyfish Nebula IC443 is one of my favorite Nebula targets. It is also a challenge due to the bright stars, the bright areas of the Nebula but also the fine details in the darker areas.

I have been gradually gathering data over the past 2 months, up to 5 hours now. I will continue to gain more over the coming season. Below you can see how the amount of hours on a target really is the biggest factor in your astrophotography images.

1 hour of data
2 hours of data
3 hours of data
5.5 hours of data

Here’s the same data but reprocessed using Pixinsight only (previous image was Pixinisght and photoshop). I utilized the new Pixinisight gradient correction. The image has less blown out areas, the stars are better controlled. it’s coming along, but I still think that it requires several hours more exposure for the faint dust and gas clouds on the left side.
