My First Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)

C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) was last visible from Earth 80,000 years ago. It was visible again between October 12th to 22nd, gradually getting fainter each day as it starts its journey back on a long elliptical orbit out into space. It will not visit us again for another 80,000 years.

I tried last year to capture a comet, but was having difficulties getting it in view, tracked properly. It was moving faster through the sky than C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), which made it harder. I was however lucky enough to be able to capture this one.

As usual it was captured with my SVBONY one shot color camera, through an SVBONY 80mm scope mounted on an AM5 tracking mount. Guiding was provided with PHD2, and image session managed with NINA. Final stacking and editing was done with Pixinsight and Photoshop.

Tomorrow I will make another attempt to get an even better image now I am more prepared on how to setup the session and track a comet. Here’s to clear skies!
