Adding Dual Band Data to Flaming Star and Tadpole Nebula

Flaming Star Nebula with Tadpole Nebula

I have been working on an image of the Flaming Star Nebula with the Tadpole Nebula in the same frame. The work in progress from RGB data is shown above. While it is coming along nicely, I felt like the inclusion of dual band filter data that concentrates the Ha and OIII data would be beneficial. Below is 1 hour of Ha and OIII data. I have removed the stars with Star Exterminator, as the RGB stars will be used.

Ha and OIII data from dual band filter

You can see from this, the 1 hour of Ha and OIII data has much more detials in the tadpoles than several hours of RGB. I look forward to the day I switch to Narrowband with Monochrome camera and can image these targets again with further improvements. For now, I will make do with this method. I have combined the Ha, OII data with he RGB data in photoshop by simply aligning the images and then using blending techniques built into photoshop to blend the images together. Below is the result of adding just 1 hour of Ha and OII dual band data to the RGB. The tadpoles pop more, and some of the fainter dust clouds and reflection nebulas are starting to become visible. I will be collecting further data to add to this.

Here is a further 1 hour of dual band data combined (2 hours total)

In the following image I have combined the RGB stars only with the dual band data.

The below image is a combination of RGB data and stars, together with the Dual Band data.

I am going to be aiming for at least another 4 hours of dual band data on this target, and another 2-3 hours of RGB to compose the final image.

Flaming Star and Tadpoles Nebula with RGB and Dual Band data combined for a total of around 5 hours data.

Here’s a further 1 hour of dual band data. The dual band filter is blocking out the dust and dark nebulosity that is between the flaming star and the tadpoles. I will add more RGB data to this to try to highlight this area more as I think the tadpoles and flaming star are now quite well defined.
